Compost Collective Leeds was established to address the lack of community composting options in Leeds and empower communities to take practical climate action. We now have 8 sites up and running. In particular the project aims to:

  • bring communities together
  • build peoples’ skills and confidence
  • have a positive impact on changing  individual behaviour to food
  • have a positive impact on individual behaviour to climate change

Two Compost Collectives Leeds site in Horsforth!

Inspirations Forest Nursery is a privately run nursery based in Horsforth LS18. Up to 40 pre-school children attend daily. They play daily in the adjacent woodland. The site owners were very excited to become involved.

Site one of Compost Collective Horsforth was set up in April 20024. The Nursery’s food waste arisings and domestic food scraps from parents’ homes are brought on-site when dropping or collecting. West End Primary School is adjacent to the nursery and has now got involved too. This has been led by their Sustainability Lead. Now every class has a caddy in their classroom.

Children emptying compost

In August a second site was set up in Horsforth at the Drury Field playgrounds in conjunction with Horsforth Climate Action. This is very exciting! It is part of our work to develop a cluster of Compost Collective sites in Horsforth to demonstrate best practice.
